Canon introduces five Pixma photo printers, Android app

Canon announced the addition of five new Pixma photo printers this morning including the MG5220 Wireless Photo All-in-One, MG5120 Wireless Photo All-in-One, the MP495 Wireless Photo All-in-One, the MP280 Photo All-in-One and the single function iP4820 Inkjet Photo Printer.

The Pixma MP280 All-in-One is considered to be the entry level model among this latest release at $59.99.  The Pixma MP280 offers print speeds up to 8.4 images per minute (ipm) in black and white and 4.8 ipm in color as well as 4x6 prints in as fast as 43 seconds.

For $10 more, the Pixma MP495 Wireless All-in-One offers built-in Wi-Fi and slightly faster print speeds: 8.8 ipm in black and white and 5.0 ipm in color.  Both models feature a rear feeding tray, a single line display and a print resolution up to 4800 x 1200 dpi.

The single function Pixma iP4820 Inkjet Photo Printer comes in next at $99.99.  The Pixma iP4820 features print speeds up to 11 ipm in black and 9.3 ipm in color, image resolution up to 9600 x 2400 dpi, auto duplexing and 2-way paper feeding.

The Pixma MG5120 Wireless Photo All-in-One features a 2.4-inch LCD, auto duplexing, a print resolution up to 9600 x 2400 dpi, a scan resolution up to 2400 x 4800 dpi, five individual ink tanks and 2-way paper feeding including a rear “photo” tray and a paper cassette for $129.99.

For $20, the Pixma MG5220 Wireless Photo All-in-One will include all of the features listed above as well as built-in Wi-Fi.

The Pixma MG marks new branding for Canon’s Pixma line up, which seems to be the theme of the launch considering the new features rolling out with the entire product line.

Canon will include a brand new feature, Full HD Movie Print, allowing customers to print HD video still shots taken from Canon cameras.   With Full HD Movie Print, the customer can film a few seconds of video and then pull the perfect shot for display.  The software needed is included with Canon’s latest line up of printers as well as with compatible HD Canon EOS and PowerShot Digital cameras.

Canon will also be offering the Easy-Photo Print application, a free download that allows for wireless printing from handheld devices, to Android customers.  Previously, it was only available to iPhone and iPod Touch users.

Along with these new features, Canon has improved current software.  The Canon Easy-PhotoPrint EX software now connects directly to Flickr, the Auto Photo Fix II now has improved color cast, and the Easy-WebPrint EX software can increase or decrease selected images and text to fit on one full page as well as print booklets of information.

All of the models announced today will be available through the revamped Canon.com and authorized vendors beginning in August.
