Lyra delivers two new reports on the color laser market

Lyra Research has released two new reports that deliver worldwide forecast data and analysis for the color laser market. The color laser reports include: Color Laser Printers: Worldwide Forecast 2006-2013 and Color MFPs Still the Bright Spot of the MFP Market: Worldwide Forecast 2006-2013.

Color Laser Printers: Worldwide Forecast 2006-2013 explores factors, such as the recession, high per-page printing cost, and poorly defined office color applications, that led up to the 2009 decline in this market segment. It goes on to highlight how an uptick in the economy, new products, applications and pricing strategies that target small and medium-size businesses (SMB) is expected to stimulate shipments.

The report looks at two color laser printer market segments: personal color laser devices designed for individual users or small workgroups in business environments; and, workgroup machines designed for larger groups of users. The report covers regions including: North America; Latin America; Europe; the Middle East, and Africa; and Asia Pacific.

Color MFPs Still the Bright Spot of the MFP Market: Worldwide Forecast 2006-2013 discusses the welcomed turnaround of this battered printer market segment that’s expected to achieve double-digit growth of 12 percent per year through 2013. Regions covered include: North America; Latin America; Europe, the Middle East and Africa; and Asia Pacific.

This report examines color MFPs in four categories: desktop or A4-size models; convenience color MFPS that are designed and marketed to produce more than half of their volume in color; and production color MFPs that are designed for operated-attended environments and high print volumes.  Most MFPs covered in this report are laser but Lyra also includes several MFP ink-based models.

Larry Jamieson, director for Lyra’s Hard Copy Industry Advisory Service, notes that color laser printing has been at the forefront of office printing since the early 1980s.

More recently, however, “The economy, fewer people using printing devices and printer consolidation hurt the overall printer market and had a significant impact on the color laser market, particularly color workgroup printers,” he said, pointing out that personal color laser printers and MFPs made inroads.

Going forward expect to see the cost proposition for laser printers boost this overall market segment. Lyra also reports that vendors are adapting to the new printer market norms and the benefits of short run, on-demand color are changing market dynamics.
