In the past, small and medium businesses had very few options when it came to inexpensive wide format printing. Either use an expensive print service or purchase a huge printer and the required array of paper and ink.

Recently, inkjet manufacturers have wizened up and multiple manufacturers have released more affordable single function wide format printer’s perfect for small businesses and workgroups:  Epson with the WorkForce 1100, Canon with the Pixma iX7000, and HP with the Officejet 7000.

But how will the Officejet 7000 stack up to its peers? Read our full review and find out!

OFFICEJET 7000 SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Wide format single function (up to 13 x 19 inches)
  • Print speeds: up to 32 ppm in color, 33 ppm in black
  • Print resolution: up to 4800 x 1200 optimized dpi
  • Paper capacity: 150 sheet cassette
  • Monthly duty cycle: up to 7,000 pages
  • Connectivity: Ethernet, USB 2.0
  • Compatible with Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.6
  • Energy Star qualified
  • One-year limited warranty

BUILD AND DESIGN
When it comes to design, the HP Officejet 7000 wide format printer resembles one of the more recent HP Photosmart printers, with a jet black exterior in a mix of matte and glossy textures. It’s also more compact and sleek than its Officejet 6000 or Pro 8000 counterparts.

The Officejet 7000 weighs 15.4 pounds, which is amazing if you consider this machine was built to print media up 13 x 19 inches. Its dimensions when not in use are about 23 x 16 x 7 inches; with the extended output tray out, the dimensions are closer to 23 x 26 x 7 inches.

Since the Officejet 7000 is a single function printer geared toward small business, it has a simplistic approach to printing. The control panel consists of four buttons: network, cancel, feed and power. There are also four ink gauges on the front control panel, one for each color.

Installing the ink cartridges is fairly simple: just flip the lid and place each cartridge in the print head carriage. The Officejet 7000 comes with four HP 920 ink cartridges (CMYK). HP also offers high-capacity cartridges for the Officejet 7000, the 920XL series (CMYK).

The Officejet 7000 has a maximum input capacity up to 150 sheets and can print on a variety of media sizes from 3.5 x 5 to 13 x 9 inches.  And although the Officejet 7000 does not offer automatic duplexing, users can manually duplex projects.

For home offices and small workgroups, the Officejet 7000 comes with built-in network capability and can be shared among five users. It’s also available through a USB 2.0 connection for single users.
