Along with three other printers, the Canon Pixma MX350 Office All-in-One was officially announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January.
The Pixma MX350 is smack between the flagship Pixma MX870 and the budget-friendly Pixma MX340 in both price and features so it may miss out on some hype. That's why we decided to write a full review on the Canon Pixma MX350 Office All-in-One! Read on to find out how it measured up.
PIXMA MX350 SPECIFICATIONS:
BUILD AND DESIGN
The Pixma MX350 Office All-in-One (AIO) isn’t quite as stylish as the Pixma MX870 though the general Pixma body design is the same: a compact box with rounded edges, large control panel, and flat top. The major difference is instead of the semi-glossy silver body on the MX870, the MX350 gets a glossy but drab gray/cream colored mixture (I can’t quite put my finger on the exact color, but I don’t like it as much as the silver).
The MX350 is also smaller than the MX870 measuring in at about 18 x 17 x 8 inches and weighing less than 20 pounds. But like many of the Pixma printers I’ve reviewed before, the MX350 has a small Canon logo on the fold out output tray and a small Pixma logo on the flat top.
Don’t be fooled by the flat, sleek top; it folds out into the 30-sheet Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) for easy scans, copies and faxes of large documents. The maximum document size for the ADF is 8.5 x 14 inches, but you can use it with smaller documents too thanks to adjustable paper clasps. There is also access to the ADF paper path by flipping open the second section on the flat top.
The Pixma MX350 has the standard full control panel running across the front of the device with a 2.5-inch LCD and Canon’s Easy Scroll wheel centered. There are 15 quick keys along with a numerical key pad and the power button.
Lift directly under the control panel to access the 48-bit CIS flatbed scanner with an optical scan resolution up to 1200 x 2400 dpi and an interpolated scan resolution up to 9600 x 9600 dpi. The maximum document size on the flatbed is 8.5 x 11.7 inches. Canon provides its new Auto Document Fix and Auto Scan mode as well as a network scan when set up over a network (Ethernet or Wireless).
Fold out the front side output tray and lift the base (a small Canon logo can be seen at the base) to open the inside of the machine. Here, users have access to the print head and two ink cartridge system. The Pixma MX350 comes with the PG-210 black and CL-211 color cartridges standard, but can also be used with Canon’s high capacity PG-210 XL and CL-211 XL cartridges.
I originally thought that the Pixma MX350 had a two-way paper path like the Pixma MX870, but in fact it only has a rear feeding tray. The folding tray is compatible with various media up to legal sized documents thanks to adjustable paper clasps. Other media includes 4x6 photos, 8x10 photos, envelopes, etc.
The built-in memory card reader is located in the lower right hand corner. There are three memory card slots compatible with SD, SDHC, MMC, MMC Plus, Compact Flash, Microdrive, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Memory Stick Duo, and Memory Stick Pro Duo. There is also a PictBridge slot below the card reader that is compatible with PictBridge-enabled digital cameras along with USB flash drives.
All connection ports are found on the back of the Pixma MX350 including two phone jacks, Ethernet and USB ports and the power connection.
