Earlier this year, Brother introduced the new HL-3000 line of color LED printers targeted at small businesses looking to reduce their printing costs.
The flagship Brother HL-3170cdw is a single function device offering print speeds up to 23 ppm, automatic duplexing, a 250-sheet paper tray and both wired and wireless network connectivity.
So take a gander at the Brother HL-3170cdw and find out how it performed as we share the results of our testing!
Build and Design
The Brother HL-3170cdw is replacing the HL-3075cw in Brother's color LED lineup so you will see several similarities if you read our review last year. They share the same compact footprint with the approximate dimensions of 16 x 18 x 10 inches in non use, but Brother has updated the design which I find more aesthetically pleasing, if nothing else.
The control panel has been pushed to the left side of the device and with a single line backlit LCD display and an eight key navigation. If you choose to set up the HL-3170cdw over a network connection, you can also access the mobile print options including Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, Brother iPrint&Scan, Cortado Workplace and Wi-Fi Direct.
Lift up under the control panel to access the four toner cartridges (CMYK). One of the features introduced with this new series is the optional high capacity toner cartridges. Standard capacity cartridges yield about 1,400 pages while the high capacity cartridges yield about 2,200 pages.
Like previous generations, the HL-3170cdw offers a single sheet manual bypass slot found on the front of the device as well as a 250-sheet paper cassette. The HL-3170cdw can handle a variety of paper sizes up to legal sized documents (8.5 x 14 inches).
As mentioned previously, the HL-3170cdw can be set up over a wired network, wireless network or standard USB. All connections are found on the back of the HL-3170cdw.
