After seeing Polaroid at Digital Experience on Monday night, I was excited to see what they had planned for the show floor. Polaroid's booth was located in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center in the midst of some of the biggest players in the digital imaging world - Canon, Samsung, Sony and more.
Like Digital Experience, the emphasis at the Polaroid booth was on the new Fotobar stores Polaroid will be launching in 2013. The idea behind the Fotobar store is to give customers the ability to turn their favorite images from their Android and iOS devices, digital cameras, memory cards, flash drive and more into a variety of photo projects.
Polaroid had turned a portion of their booth into a mock Fotobar and attendees could head up and print a free poster from their phone, tablet or camera. You signed in at one of the terminals (or create a new account, it's free and easy) and receive a Polaroid Fotobar email. You then select the photo you want to send (I used my iPad) and send it to the Fotobar email.
Once you have the photos uploaded, you can select which art and then the appropriate size. After you checkout, your project will be sent to your home.
The first of 10 stores will open in Delray Beach, FL but one of the reps assured me they will be branching out across the country, including a location in Chicago. You can learn more about the Polaroid Fotobar on their website.
Polaroid had all their print capable devices on hand including the brand new Z2300 Instant Digital Camera. The Z2300 is a 10 megapixel digital camera that prints full color 2 x 3 inch images using the ZINK Zero Ink Printing Technology.
ZINK is an inkless print technology that embeds color into the paper that reacts to heat allowing the Z2300 to run without an ink cartridge or ribbon. Prints come out in less than minute as you can see from our video demo below!
The Z2300 can also be used to take and view 720p HD video with a built-in speaker and microphone. Other features include: a 2.5-inch LCD, 6x digital zoom, anti-shake image stabilization and rechargeable Lithium-ion battery.
The Polaroid Z2300 Instant Digital Camera is available in white or black and comes with a 1-year limited warranty. It is expected to available later this quarter for the suggested retail price of $179.99.
