MakerBot Reveals Replicator 2X 3D Printer

But some attendees got more than they bargained for as the MakerBot booth was a bit small and ill placed for a press conference and some not so fabulous members of the press threw their luggage in what space was left for the aisle. I counted at least five major wipeouts from random attendees trying to squeeze by during the 15 minute speech give by CEO Bre Pettis.

Of course, there was a reason a bunch of people squeezed into a small space, the fourth generation Replicator 2X 3D printer. This new model now allows customers to print in two colors with PLA Filament manufactured by MakerBot. Pettis promised that MakerBot is planning on offering a variety of colors and styles including (but not limited to): matte, translucent, shimmery, metallic and sparkly colors now that they are manufacturing their own plastic print material.

And with the new PLA Filament, the Replicator 2X 3D can be ready to print in as fast as two minutes and save customers up to 32 percent on energy saving versus the Replicator 2 that uses ABS Filament (but if you love ABS, you can still print with it using the Replicator 2X 3D).

The Replicator 2X 3D comes assembled despite adding 37 percent more volume then the original MakerBot Replicator, building pieces up to 11.2 x 6.1 x 6 inches (410 cubic inches).
