The Canon Pixma MG3220 is an mid level all-in-one scanner, copier and photo printer replacing the previous generation Pixma MG3120 photo printer announced earlier this year. Canon states that the new lineup offers faster print speeds, wireless connectivity and new mobile print apps, and the new My Image Garden photo software. The Pixma MG3220 also offers borderless photos on ChromaLife 100 high performance ink cartridges, and the printer can reach up to 9.2 ipm according to Canon.

Moreover, this AIO photo printer offers high color resolution color photo capabilities with a maximum of 4800 x 1200 dpi and is Energy Star certified. It's currently selling for only $79.99 from Canon's website, so keep reading to find out if this is the right AIO for you.

Build and Design

The Pixma MG3220 is small and compact. It has a matte black design and silver highlights, and the simplified control panel runs across the left side of the machine. The exact dimensions are 17.8" (W) x 13.2" (D) x 6.0" (H) and the weight is just over 12 lbs.

The built-in flatbed 48-bit internal/24-bit external scanner opens from the top of the machine and features a Pixma logo on the lid. It can fit documents up to 8.5 x 11.7 inches in size. The scanner has several features, including auto scan mode, push to scan and wireless scanning (with the correct network setup or app).

Since this is Canon's budget model, there is no LCD display but there is a 7-segment LED feature. It's not as intuitive and might take some getting used to, especially with the scan settings. Control panel buttons include power button, copy and scan settings, stop/reset, and a shuffler between paper sizes.

The paper tray can hold up to 100 sheets and all paper is loaded into the same spot. The black and color dual inks can be loaded if you pull the door open at the Canon logo.

Two standard ink cartridges are included with the Pixma MG3220; the CL-241 dye-based color cartridge and the PG-240 pigment-based black ink cartridge. High capacity cartridges for the MG3220 are also available from Canon and they are fully compatible with this system: the CL-241 XL color cartridge and the PG-240 XL black cartridge.

The MG3220's 100-sheet tray can hold a variety of paper and other media, including legal copy paper, U.S. #10 envelopes, semi and regular gloss, super high gloss, 4x6 photo paper, matte photo paper, etc.

The high-speed USB 2.0 cable port and power cord port are located on the back of the system. Wireless capability is available and doesn't take long to set up if you're connected to a network.
