Canon Pixma MG4220 Review: A Welcome Update

The Pixma MG4220 has updated the design slightly with solid matte black finishing, but it still shares the same approximate dimensions of 18 x 12 x 6-inches in non use (you'll need 18 x 23 x 18-inches with trays and scan lid extended) as its predecessor, the Pixma MG4120.

The control panel has also been revised with a 2.5-inch LCD and more traditional stationary four directional navigation (goodbye Easy Scroll Wheel - you will be missed). The rest of the panel is very familiar with the three device menu keys and seven additional quick keys.

The memory card reader is located beneath the control panel. It's compatible with the following media: SD card, SDHC Card, MultiMediaCard, MultiMediaCard Plus, Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick PRO Duo.

The 8.5 x 11.7-inch flatbed scanner offers an optical scan resolution up to 1200 x 2400 dpi. You'll also find multiple scan-to features including email, memory card and network.

Like the Pixma MG4120 before it, the Pixma MG4220 offers the Fast Front two cartridge ink system for easy access to the PG-240 Pigment Black Cartridge and the CL-241 Dye Color Cartridge. Customers interested in printing more often will be happy to hear that Canon offers high capacity replacements: the PG-240 XL, PG-240XXL and the CL-241XL cartridges.

You'll also find the same fold out input and output trays seen on previous generations. The Pixma MG4220 can hold up to 100 sheets of letter-sized paper, but can handle a variety of media types including, but not limited to, multiple sizes of photo paper, legal and envelopes.

All connections are found on the back of the Pixma MG4220. Customers can set up the printer over a Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11b/g/n) or Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connection.
