The Lexmark C740 Series was announced this morning as a mid range single function color laser option in the Lexmark enterprise printing and imaging segment.

We received the C748de, one of six configurations found in the C740 series, the first series of color laser printers priced under $1000 to offer a color touch screen user interface. The C748de features a 4.3-inch e-Task color touch screen with audible feedback and customized solutions for unique business or workgroup needs.

Other features include print speeds up to 35 ppm, print resolution up to 1200 x 1200 dpi, an 800 MHz processor with 512 MB of memory standard and a monthly duty cycle up to 100,000 pages.

Want to know more? We are sharing our exclusive full review of the C748de where we’ll go through build, design, ease of use and our full battery of tests before it hits the channel!

Build and Design

The lexmark C748de is similar in build and design to what we’ve seen from lexmark in this space. We reviewed the C792de last year and both have that boxy, tall gray design with the Lexmark logo on the front and share the 4.3-inch color touch screen.

The approximate dimensions of the C748de are 18 x 17 x 16 inches in non use but closer to 21 x 17 x 18 inches in use with the paper tray set to letter sized.

As I mentioned earlier, the C748de is one of the first color laser printers to offer a color touch screen user interface in its class. The 4.3-inch e-Task is nearly identical to what we’ve seen from other lexmark printers and is fully customizable. There is also an alphanumerical key pad, home quick key, sleep mode quick key and cancel quick key as well as a front side USB port.

Pull out the Lexmark handle on the front side of the C748de to access the four toner cartridges (CMYK). The C748de ships with three color High Yield Return Program Toner Cartridges (CMY) with a page yield of 10,000 pages and one black High Yield Return Program Toner Cartridge with a page yield of 12,000 pages. You’ll find the waste toner box on the left hand side of the C748de

The 100-sheet multipurpose tray is attached to the 550-sheet paper drawer. Slip your finger under the gray button to pull open the multipurpose tray. This tray is great for unique media including envelopes, labels, transparencies, etc. The 550-sheet paper drawer can be expanded to hold media up to legal sized and Lexmark includes a removable legal paper cover for the back of the printer.

The connectivity options are found on the left side of the C748de and include Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and Ethernet 10/100/1000 BaseTX. For customers interested in wireless connectivity, Lexmark does offer the optional MarkNet N8250 802.11 b/g/n Wireless Print Server.
