Samsung continues to target new customers with the release of two monochrome laser printer series designed for at-home professionals and small workgroups.
The single function ML-2955 series consists of two models announced in August: the ML-2955nd and the ML-2955dw. Both models share a small footprint, print speeds up to 29 ppm, a monthly duty cycle of 12,000 pages, automatic duplexing and a one-piece toner cartridge.
The difference between the two is that the higher end ML-2955dw also offers customers built-in wireless connectivity with a one-touch setup and MobilePrint app.
Today, I’ll be sharing with you the full results of our testing and revealing whether the ML-2955dw can pull an Editor’s Choice Award like the ML-3712nd did this summer.
BUILD AND DESIGN
Samsung doesn't make any claims about the ML-2955dw being the "smallest" or "most compact", but it must be in the same class as its ultra compact peers with the approximate dimensions of 14 x 8 x 13-inches in non-use and a weigh in at 16 lbs without consumables.
The body is done in white, but not the kind of white that blinds you. It's a more subtle white that blends in to the background, and in fact, if I hadn't been told it was white, I might even call it off-white or a very light gray. No mistaking the color of the side panels, they are definitely gray.
Since the ML-2955dw is a single function monochrome laser, there aren't many frills when it comes to the design. There's the shiny Samsung logo above the single sheet multipurpose tray, a four button control panel and a flip up 150-sheet output bin.
The ML-2955dw offers a 250-sheet standard paper cassette that can hold media ranging from 3 x 5-inches to 8.5 x 14-inches (legal). Users can print double sided with automatic duplexing and the ML-2955dw has a maximum monthly duty cycle of up to 12,000 pages.
Pull open the front panel to reveal the one-piece toner cartridge. The ML-2955dw comes with a standard capacity cartridge yielding approximately 1,500 pages, but customers can purchase a high yield toner replacement with the approximate yield of 2,500 pages.
All connections are found on the back as well as direct access to the paper path. Since we are reviewing the ML-2955dw, we have the option to choose from a Hi-Speed USB 2.0, Ethernet or wireless connection.
