In July, Canon revealed seven new laser imageCLASS products for the small office/home office market in mind. One of those products was the Canon imageCLASS MF3010, a compact monochrome multifunction laser printer that can print, scan, and copy.

The MF3010 features print speeds of up to 19 pages per minute and an advertised quick first print time of 8 seconds. It prints from its 150-sheet front-loading paper cassette. Users can choose to print in Watermark, Toner Saver, Poster and Page Composer modes, and can create copies of small documents such as identification using the MF3010's ID card copy function.

In our full review we'll study the MF3010's build and design, specifications, give you the results of our tests, go over its pricing and availability, and also provide a handful of photographs.

BUILD AND DESIGN
The Canon imageCLASS MF3010 has a black design and a glossy surfaced control panel, although the rest of the printer is matte. The dimensions measure in at a very compact 14.7 x 10.9 x 10-inches. It weighs in at 16.8 lbs without the toner cartridge inside.

Its 150-sheet paper cassette tray is front-loading and is located on the bottom of the printer. It has gray knobs that can be sized to fit letter, legal, A4, B5, A5, statement and executive media. The MF3010 is compatible with many paper and media types, including plain paper, heavy, bond, small document, envelopes (up to 10 - COM10, Monarch, ISO-C5, ISO-B5, DL) and labels.

The output tray is located above the paper cassette and is oddly designed, although the design of it does help with the compact form factor. It's simply a panel that flips out after you press a button. The output tray can fit up to 100 sheets.

The simplistic control panel with a 1-line LCD is located above the output tray and sports a glossy design. It offers a few options, including changing the print and copy settings and will display problems with the printer. For example, if paper needs to be loaded it will display a symbol indicating such. The panel also has 'start copy' and 'cancel job' buttons. The power button is located on the bottom-left of the MF3010.

By lifting underneath the control panel users can access the inside of the MF3010. A second panel needs to be lifted on the inside to access the toner cartridge and printhead compartment. Canon ships one "starter cartridge" with the MF3010, the Black Toner Cartridge 125, with a 1,600 page yield.

At the very top of the MF3010 is the 24-bit color flatbed scanner. The compact size of the MF3010 constricts the scanner to fit only 8.5 x 11 (letter size) media. The flatbed scanner has a maximum resolution 600 x 600 dpi. Media scanned in can be saved in searchable PDF, hi-compression PDF, regular PDF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF and BMP formats.

The backside of the MF3010 is where the power and High-Speed USB 2.0 cable are connected. On the sides are two holding handles for carrying.
