Canon introduced two new Pixma photo printers - Pixma MG5320 and Pixma iP4920 - targeted at consumers and at home professionals late last month. We recently reviewed the Pixma MG5320 All-in-One and now we have turned our attention to the single function Pixma iP4920 Premium Inkjet Photo Printer.
The Pixma iP4920 will be replacing the Pixma iP4820 we reviewed last fall. Like the Pixma iP4820, the Pixma iP4920 will feature five individual ink tanks, a high print resolution up to 9600 x 2400 dpi and two-way paper feeding. But it also includes faster print speeds up to 12.5 ipm and CD/DVD printing.
So are you ready to find out if the Pixma iP4920 could be the perfect single function photo printer for your home or dorm room?
BUILD AND DESIGN
The Pixma iP4920 shares a near identical design with the iP4820 with glossy black paneling and sliver accents. Even the overall dimensions are the same in both storage mode and print mode at approximately 17 x 12 x 6 inches and 17 x 21 x 12 inches, respectively.
The 150-sheet rear tray is actually found on the top of the Pixma iP4920 and extends out to the rear. This tray is great for unusual sized media - think envelopes, invitations, etc. - as well as photo and art paper that look better printing through a straight paper path.
Pull open the front of the Pixma iP4920 to access the 100-sheet output tray, the CD/DVD print option and the print head. Open the center panel with the Canon logo to insert the removable CD/DVD tray.
Lift up from the same center panel to access the inside of the Pixma iP4920 and the five individual ink tanks. Canon provides four dye based color cartridges (CMYK) and one pigment based black ink cartridge. There is not a high capacity ink replacement option as of this writing.
To the right of the output tray is the two-button control panel (power and resume/cancel) and PictBridge port.
The 150-sheet cassette pulls out from the bottom of the Pixma iP4920 and works with a variety of media up to letter sized.
Find all connections on the back of the Pixma iP4920. The Pixma iP4920 can be set up via a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connection.
