Late last month, Canon announced its two newest additions to the Pixma photo all-in-one family: the Pixma iP4920 premium photo inkjet and the star of this review, the Pixma MG5320. The MG5320 has print, scan, and copy functionalities and can be hooked up to a wireless network. It is an update to last year's Pixma photo printer in this class, the MG5220.

Along with its 3-in-1 functionality, the Canon Pixma MG5320 has a 3.0-inch adjustable LCD with many features such as disc labeling, PDF file print, quiet print, and advanced photo copy. This AIO also has two-way paper feeding and duplex printing, a five-ink system, Full HD Movie Print, and many more notable capabilities.

This review will cover its print speeds, photo and text print quality, energy usage, and much more. Keep reading to find out if this is the photo printer that could land a spot in your household.

PIXMA MG5320 SPECIFICATIONS:

  • 3-in-1 inkjet: print, copy, scan
  • Print speeds: 12.5 ipm in black, 9.3 ipm in color
  • 4x6 print speeds: approx. 20 seconds
  • Print resolution: up to 9600 x 2400 dpi
  • Paper capacity: 150 sheets; 150 sheets cassette
  • Maximum document size: 8.5" x 11.7"
  • Auto duplex
  • MS Duo, SD/MS, HighSpeed USB 2.0
  • Full HD Movie Print
  • Connectivity: USB 2.0 and Wi-Fi LAN
  • Energy Star qualified
  • 1-year limited warranty and InstantExchange program

The Pixma MG5320's specialty is quality photo printing, and users should expect quality--especially with its higher maxmium resolution, up to 9600 x 2400 dpi. This device also offers Canon's new CloudLink software, which allows users to print from a photo album or location stored on Canon iMAGE GATEWAY or Picasa web albums.

BUILD AND DESIGN
The MG5320 is covered in a glossy black design and has silver lettering for featuring the Canon and Pixma logos. Keep in mind that while the glossy exterior may appear stylish, it will attract fingerprints easily and may prove to be high maintenance. The device measures in at 14.5 x 17.8 x 6.6 inches and weighs in at 18 lbs.

The device has a 48-bit flatbed scanner which can be accessed by lifting the lid directly under the top control panel. The scanner has an optical max. resolution of 2400 x 4800 dpi. Its features include an auto scan mode with auto fix, gutter shadow correction, push scan, and scan to memory. The scanner can fit up to 8.5 x 11.7-inch (wide-sized) documents.

The top control panel that covers more than half of the lid features an adjustable 3.0-inch color LCD in the very center with a scroll wheel for easy navigation. The scroll wheel can also be utilized by pressing the arrows to sift through the functions. The disc labeler, PDF file print, advanced copy and photo options, setup, eco settings, and other options can be found on the LCD. From left to right, the buttons on the control panel are: on/off, home, return, function keys, scroll wheel, +- copies, start black or color copy, and stop. Below these buttons are three blue LED indicators, including Wi-Fi and power.

The main paper feeder is located in the back of the device and can fit a variety of paper sizes. These sizes include 8 x 10-inch, 4 x 6, 5 x 7, legal and letter, and US #10 envelopes. The media types it supports are plain paper, high res, super high gloss: photo paper pro platinum, photo paper plus glossy II, regular glossy, photo paper plus semi-gloss, matte photo paper, and U.S. #10 envelopes. The main feed tray fits a maximum of 150 sheets and the cassette fits an additional 150 sheets. The cassette is found on the very bottom of the device.

The MG5320 excels in media compatibility. The media card reader slots can be accessed by opening the door flap on the front-right side. The first slot is an MS Duo and SD/MS slot, which is compatible with a number of storage devices, including SD card, SDHC, MultiMediaCard MultiMediaCard Plus, miniSD Card, miniSDHC Card, microSD Card, microSDHC Card, RS-MMC, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, and Memory Stick Micro. Below this slot is the USB flash memory and PictBridge slot.

Under the flatbed scanner lies the 5-ink tank system to help sustain those higher-quality photo prints. The MG5320 comes with four dye-based inks, the CLI-226 Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black, as well as one pigment-based black ink tank, the PGI-225.

The connections are located in the back of the device, including the power and the USB cable slot. There are also hand grips for easy handling on the bottom of both sides.
