Dell released eight laser-class printers with Dell Clear View LED technology and, at the time, introduced four of them as the smallest printers available on the market in each of their respective classes. Upon the introduction of the Dell 1350cnw office laser-class printer, it was held as the "world's smallest letter color laser-class network printer."

The printer has wireless network connectivity, bypass tray, a 700 per cartridge color and black page yield, advertised black and white print speeds up to 15 pages per minute and up to 12 ppm in color and a monthly duty cycle up to 30,000 pages. It features a two-lined mono LCD with seven buttons on its control panel. It is similar to the Dell 1250c in size, design, and even in functionality.

In our full review of the Dell 1350cnw we will see if this compact printer has what it takes to land a spot in your small or home office.

BUILD AND DESIGN

The Dell 1350cnw has an all-black design, save a few silver accents due to the Dell label and product name, and is made mostly of matte plastics. Since it is a single-function LED printer, it makes sense that it has such a compact size. The device officially measures in at 15.5 x 11.8 x 8.9 (W x D x H) when the printer is not in use and was a little heavy to carry at 23 pounds. It works on a 4-toner system of Dell CMYK, meaning it takes yellow, magenta, cyan and black ink.

The 150-sheet main paper load tray can be utilized by folding out the bottom-most panel and extending the adjustible paper clasp. This function helps to keep the device at its compact size. The 1350cnw holds regular to thick plain paper, 106-163g/m2 paper, coated paper (106-163g/m2), envelopes, labels, and Hagaki at 190gsm; it can also process recycled paper. The bypass tray and feed tray can fit weights of 60gsm-216gsm. The feed tray fits up to 150 sheets and the bypass tray fits up to 10 sheets. The output tray is located at the very top and folds out toward the front. The feed drawer fits sizes in 8.5-inch, A4, B5, and 11-inch. The bypass tray can fit A5, B5, A4, and 8.5 x 11 paper sizes.

The control panel features a simple, 7-button 2-lined mono LED. There are up/down and left/right arrows, an "enter" button, a menu button and a "cancel printing" button. The menu includes options for printing a report on printer settings, test pages, job history, etc. It also has an admin menu for setting up a new network, keeping maintenance or entering settings, and for setting the panel language. The panel also has a bite-sized green LED that lights up when the device is in use.

The cartridge panel folds outward from the right side of the printer. It features several image-specific instructions on the cover with how to load the ink cartridges properly. The 1350cnw takes 4R4G5 Black, YPXY8 Cyan, H89YG Magenta, and 89KJM Yellow; each standard cartridge yields 700 pages. The cartridges can be easily popped out using a mechanism latch. The power button is on the same side in the lower left corner. There are useful hand grips on each side toward the bottom to aid in carrying.

The backside of the 1350cnw is where the power cord input lies, as well as the Ethernet and USB 2.0 connections. Underneath the USB 2.0 port is a lock slot. There is also a jammed paper holder that is located in the back of the device and extends outward by pressing down on a latch on the top.
