With the announcement of five new office-centric printers at CES 2011 earlier this month, Canon has now completely refreshed its inkjet lineup with a total of 12 new inkjet products unveiled over the past six months. And since we've reviewed most of the photo printers announced in 2010, it's time to take an in-depth look at the new office lineup.

We'll be starting today with the Canon Pixma MX882 Wireless Office All-in-one, the flagship of the new lineup targeted at the small office, home office (SOHO) market. The Pixma MX882 features print speeds up to 12.5 ipm in black and 9.3 ipm in color, a 3-inch LCD with the new Dual Function Panel, automatic duplexing and built-in wireless network connectivity.

So read our full review and find out now if the Canon Pixma MX882 can keep up in your home office or small workgroup!

PIXMA MX882 SPECIFICATIONS:

  • 4-in-1 inkjet printer: print, scan, copy and fax
  • Print speeds: up to 12.5 ipm in black, 9.3 ipm in color
  • Print resolution: up to 9600 x 2400 dpi
  • 3-inch LCD with Dual Function Panel
  • Automatic duplexing
  • Full HD Movie Print
  • 35-sheet automatic document feeder
  • Built-in card reader with front side USB/PictBridge port

BUILD AND DESIGN
Following in the footsteps of the redesigned Pixma photo printers, the Pixma MX882 Wireless Office All-in-One throws caution to the wind with a sleek new design featuring a glossy black exterior and Canon's new Dual Function Panel.

But while the design has been refreshed, the size is nearly identical to the previous generation Pixma MX870, measuring in at 19 x 18 x 9 inches when in storage mode and weighing in at just less than 26 pounds with no consumables.

Working from the top down, the Pixma MX882's 35-sheet automatic document feeder allows users to scan, copy or fax large documents up to legal size with ease while completing other tasks.

The 3-inch LCD and Dual Function Panel are centered on the length wide control panel. The Dual Function Panel is similar to the Intelligent Touch Technology we saw on the Canon Pixma MG8120; it makes navigation simpler by only highlighting the functions needed for each given task. To the left, find four quick device keys (scan, copy, fax, and card), the power key and the setup menu quick key. To the right, six more quick keys including start, stop, redial and hook.

The 48-bit flatbed scanner is found under the top panel and offers Auto Document Fix, Auto Duplex Scan, Auto Scan Mode12, Network Scan, Push Scan and Scan to Memory.

Pull down the front panel/output tray and lift at the middle to access the print head and five individual ink cartridges. The Pixma MX882 ships with a PGI-225 pigment based black ink cartridge and four CLI-226 dye based ink cartridges (CMYK). As far as I can tell from Canon's website, they do not offer high capacity ink cartridges as of this writing.

To the right of the front panel is the built-in card reader with a front side USB/PictBridge port. The Pixma MX882 is compatible with the following media: SD, SDHC, MultiMediaCard, MMC Plus, CompactFlash, Microdive, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick PRO duo.

The 150-sheet paper cassette is found beneath the front panel/output tray while the 150-sheet rear folding tray can be found on the back of the Pixma MX882. The Pixma MX882 can be used with a variety of media ranging from 4x6 prints to legal sized documents.

All connections are found on the back of the Pixma MX882. Users can connect the Pixma MX882 through a Hi-Speed USB 2.0, Wireless LAN or Ethernet connection although neither USB or Ethernet cables are provided.
