When Dell announced the addition of eight new color laser class printers to their growing lineup at the end of September, I was interested in hearing more. When we heard that four of the eight would be the "world's smallest" color printers in their respective classes, I knew I had to get them in for review.

Today, we'll be sharing our full review of the Dell 1250c, the "world's smallest color A4/Letter laser class printer" in its class. Beyond an ultra compact footprint, the Dell 1250c also offers print speeds up to 12 ppm in black and 10 ppm in color, a print resolution up to 600 x 600 dpi and a monthly duty cycle up to 30,000 pages.

1250C SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Single function color LED
  • Print speeds: up to 12 ppm in black, 10 ppm in color
  • Print resolution: up to 600 x 600 dpi
  • 192 MHz processor with 64 MB of RAM
  • Monthly duty cycle: up to 30,000 pages
  • Paper capacity: 150-sheet paper tray
  • Connectivity: Hi-Speed USB 2.0
  • Energy Star, RoHS compliant
  • 1-year limited warranty with Advanced Exchange Service

BUILD AND DESIGN
The Dell 1250c is a single function LED printer so it's no shock that it has a small footprint. But I was surprised that Dell managed to make a color LED printer that measures in at 16 x 12 x 9 inches considering the printer still has to house four toner cartridges (CMYK) as well as a 150-sheet paper tray that can print on A4 media.

Dell accomplishes this partially by having the 150-sheet paper tray extend out of the printer by opening the front panel and adjusting the paper clasp to the appropriate length. The 1250c comes with a plastic paper cover that keeps exposed media from getting smudged up.

The 1250c has the 100-sheet output bin on top of the device with the barely there control panel which consists of two buttons - start and cancel - as well as 11 back lit LEDs for quick status updates.

Wondering where the toner is stored? Pull the discreet left side panel open to find four standard capacity toner cartridges (CMYK) with an estimated yield of 700 pages shipped with the 1250c. Dell also sells high capacity toner cartridges (CMYK) with an estimated yield of 1400 pages for the color cartridges and 2000 pages for the black cartridge.

On the same side, users will also find the on/off switch.

The 1250c is not network ready; connect the "world's smallest A4/Letter color laser-class printer" via a USB 2.0 connection, located on the back of the device.
